Piriformis syndrome:

services

Piriformis syndrome can cause pain or numbness in your buttock, hip, or upper leg. It happens when the piriformis muscle puts pressure on the sciatic nerve. Injury, swelling, muscle spasms, or scar tissue in the piriformis muscle can cause this condition. Most episodes of this syndrome go away in a few days or weeks with rest and simple treatments. If the condition persists, it needs to be treated. Some treatments include stretching, physiotherapy, medications that relax the muscle, steroid injections, and sometimes Botulinum toxin (Botox®) injections.
